summertime refreshment

Once the early morning rain cleared off it was a beautiful spring day, almost felt like summer. Felipe and I made our staple of homemade pizza for dinner, dubbing it "Italian Night" and watching the first 2 hours of The Godfather, Part II. I got a TON of good knitting done. Unfortunately sweater weather has passed me by. It will be a nice surprise to find the sweater in my closet come fall. To go with our movie and meal we made homemade cherry limeades - SO REFRESHING!

Here's the recipe (so easy you probably don't actually need a recipe:
Fill a glass with ice. Pour 1/3 full with ready-made limeade. Add one cherry and a spoonful of cherry juice, topping off with Sprite. Squeeze in 1/ lime. Stir and enjoy:)

what's up doc?

I had a very full and fabulous weekend! Thank you for making it great:) The weekend began with a quiet evening at home, catching up on Lost, Grey's, and the Office. Thank you Felipe for not making me go out celebrating!

Saturday Mom and Dad came up and we were invited to the Rosso's for a scrumptious dinner of beef tenderloin and mashed potatoes. Before dinner we had a fancy champagne toast where I got a little choked up--I'm so proud of Dr. Rosso, Jr! Dinner was followed by icecream with warm berry sauce and whipped cream, YUMMY! The blending of the families went really well, much better than I ever could have expected. After I stuff myself with a huge bowl of dessert it was time to squeeze myself into my various wedding dresses for a fashion show. We all agreed on the most perfect dress that makes me feel like a princess! My belly was full of good food and my heart was full of love for my two family, but the evening was not yet over. It was time for the hooding ceremony - check out how handsome my future husband is!

kitchen adventures

Lots of fun in the kitchen today. The day began with large-pearl tapioca pudding, an Alton Brown recipe using the crockpot. Unfortunately I didn't do the best job tempering the egg yolks, but it is DELISH! I just adore tapioca pudding and the large pearls are so hard to find.

For dinner Felipe and I made our trademark pizza - and it was the best yet! The pizza stone has been an unexpected joy in the kitchen. What an amazing gift - thanks mom! So, the pizza starts with a Jiffy crust, some store-bought pizza sauce and is topped with spinach, mushrooms, chives, red onions. My half gets pineapple while Felipe gets pepperoni "over-the-covers". Finished with some mozzarella and oregano. Felipe also made some bacon wrapped asparagus, a deceptively simple and delicious recipe!

blah

It's been a blah kind of weekend thus far. Yesterday I had my family medicine in-house exam, only 50 questions, didn't do too bad. After that I hit the gym to get the good endorphins pumping. Quick trip to Price Chopper (where I forgot the coconut to make 5-cup sald) then it was time to meet our financial planner. I think we are financially on track, granted we've got a lot of debt, but we've got a good plan to get it paid off.

Then the craziness started - our first joint account! YIKES! And of course Felipe's first question was, "when does my debit card arrive?" YIKES! I think that kind of got my stress-cortisol pumping (bye bye good endorphins). I really need to learn to take deep breaths and relax a little more, because next thingI knew my stomach started acting up again like when I had my ulcer/gastritis (I still think ulcer, but it was never "officially" diagnosed.) So I freaked out a bit. I'm so excited for Felipe and I's future together, but sometimes I just get overwhelmed with all the grown-up decisions we are faced with.

Still feeling a little blechy today, but not so bad that I declined aKrispy Kreme run for breakfast. Felipe is partial to the super sweet chocolate iced kreme filled while I prefer the equally sugary custard ones. Yummy sugary goodness in my tummy!

Definitely one of the highlights of the weekend thus far. Other highlights include girls vs boys darts (where the girls kicked some major booty), mission carnival (hooray for blue cotton candy), hanging out with our fave pregnant married couple Hannah & Randy, scheduling our engagement pics (June 1st!), and making tapioca pudding. I think the weekend is shaping up to be just fine.

And the best fiance ever award goes to. . . . . .

Just want to give a shout-out to my AMAZING fiance. I've been quite scatterbrained lately which is a bit out of character for me. When you couple that with being out of town, quite a few things end up falling through the cracks but Felipe has done a fabulous job keeping me on track. Not only has he bonded with Miss Elo (finally!), he has cleaned his house, begun packing (hooray!), picked up my prescription, delivered the wedding gift I forgot to take to the wedding, checked my mail, AND made an appointment with our financial planner. Well acutally he made TWO appointments because I told him the wrong time for my test and he had to reschedule. Let's just say he is pretty awesome, and has an abundance of patience. This gives me such a warm fuzzy feeling that I had to tell everyone just how great he really is, especially since I usually post cute little stories of his silly fiance antics. So if you happen to see the wonderful future Dr. Rosso give him a pat on the back for me for a job well done:)

College reunion

The 4 years since college graduation have flown by so fast! It doesn't seem that long ago that I was living the life of leisure and preparing to walk down the hill, nervous to enter medical school. This weekend was a nice trip down memory lane when I got to hang out with a ton of my college buddies. It was so much fun to catch up on their lives. Saturday, my best-friend from the dorms, Jiten, married Noor, one of my former mccollum residents. They are the perfect couple and it was a lovely wedding.
To finish the trip down memory lane, here is a pic of felipe and I's first kiss at the halloween party first year. Moses is a pretty handsome fellow!

pondering pediatrics

While witnessing childbirth at 4am this morning I was faced with a choice: stay with the mom to provide postpartum care or move over to the newborn and welcome him into the world. I chose baby, no contest. Coming here to McPherson I thought I was firm in my decision of family medicine, but actually this experience has turned me away from FM and towards pediatrics, a field I had zero interest in 11 weeks ago.
