Today is my last day of my inpatient month ---- this month has exhausted me in all the different ways you can be exhausted. I've lost my sparkle somewhere in the 80h workweek and 30h call.
However, I have a fabulous "bring-back-the-sparkle" day planned for tomorrow. To start off, I'm going to sleep in as late as I possibly can then get dressed in my favorite outfit. Afterwards, Daphne and I will head over to the salon for a cut and color. I'm dying (no pun intended) for a new look. If I'm feeling adventurous, I might even go crazy and get a massage or a pedicure and try on some shoes at Von Maur.
Thursday, I hit the road for Fort Riley to deliver army babies! I've already got "the baby fever" and have a sneaking suspicion this will push me over the edge - to my mother-in-laws delight and my mothers dismay.
Gma & Gpa - I'm going to try to come visit Labor Day weekend! I'll give you a call soon. I need some scary movies, homemade popcorn, and maybe a margarita or two;)
This blog chronicles the day to day life of 2 physicians, 2 kiddos, and 2 kitties for better or for worse. . . .

Glorious weekend
Had a lovely weekend - I was on-call Friday, which meant a half-day on Saturday and all day Sunday to relax. Rather than take a nap post-call, I ended up running errands and getting stuff done so that Sunday could be completely luxurious.
Saturday night, one of Felipe's buddies had us over for grilled pizza. Absolutely delicious! Now I want a grill more than ever.
Sunday, we joined up with some good friends, packed a picnic, and headed up to Weston to tour the winery. While they were out of my favorite blackberry wine, they had some new varietals that I adored. Sunday evening was bad movies and homemade popcorn.
The perfect weekend, and now its back to work.

blah~
Had an absolutely fabulous weekend - got to introduce our good buddy Jill to the wonderfulness of Lawrence. Felipe and I got to go back to our old favorite hang-outs, eat our favorite foods, and just relax and take it easy with friends in an amazing city on an amazing summer night.
Unfortunately all that fabulousness is not spilling over into my work life. I'm a rather stubborn person (I can already hear my momma seconding that comment!) and this is becoming most evident at work as I gain more confidence and learn how to manage my patient's illness. I love to teach, but get so frustrated when people really should know better. I don't like when a patient's health is put into jeopardy all in the name of education. And I get very possessive of my patients and frequently scan their charts on my days off. I try to repeat in my head, "its just a job, its just a job." Alas, it has become my life.
Thank god for good family and friends to help balance things out.
xoxo,
melissa

Nothing new to report here in KC-
A few shout-outs to my family:
As for Felipe and I, we are both paying our dues in the hospital. Working WAY too many hours and sleeping too few. However, I think we are both learning a lot and we will emerge at the end of residency all the better for it. Lucky me, just a year and 3/4 until graduation. We won't rub in the fact that the hubby has almost 3 more years;)
The kitties and the house are both doing well. Starting to think about some landscaping ideas for this fall. Would love some rec's on some great bulbs to plant. I'm hoping to turn my backyard into an oasis.
Hugs and kisses,
Melissa
A few shout-outs to my family:
- all my love to miss mattie - xoxoxo
- Brent, au revoir dear pinto!
- Happy DVR-ing to my inlaws
- Miss Jaelynn, the prettiest flowergirl there ever was

Happy Birthday Felipe!
This weekend was Felipe's 29th birthday - we spent the day relaxing around the house. We had grand plans for a fancy steak dinner at this romantic steakhouse, but when it was time to get off the couch and get ready Felipe decided he'd much prefer to continue lounging so we ordered some Blue Koi takeout and picked up a delicious cream cake from Whole Foods.
I rang in Felipe's birthday in the hospital, delivering a baby. After a touch of sleep I was back up to attend the end of the AAFP (American Academy of Family Physicians) National Conference for Residents & Students. Got to hang out at our booth to recruit future residents and support my colleages running for leadership positions. I don't think I have a political bone in my body, so I much prefered to support their ambitions rather than gathering up my own.
We do have a grand vacation to look forward to in October - back to Puerto Vallarta, our first all-inclusive vacation locale! This time we are staying at Dreams and it looks gorgeous.
