Resident Research Day

Today was resident research day @ KU.
Same poster, different outfit.
What can I say?  If I'm going to put in the effort, then I'm going to get all the credit I can.

I also mowed the lawn after I got home.  2 times down, 2 to go and then "Moses" pays for himself!
Had vinegar-pickles and my favorite frozen pizza for dinner.
I'm telling you this pizza is AMAZING!!!!
Just trying to decide on dessert. . . . .thank goodness I'm eating for two!

Miss Elo LOVES to lounge and nap!

17 weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.  This week your baby has also mastered some simple reflexes such as swallowing, sucking and blinking.  Your baby may even have a bout of hiccups.  Fat is also forming underneath your baby's skin and will continue to do so in the later months of your pregnancy.  This will help prepare your baby for the temperature change from inside your womb to the outside world.

Activities for today - registering @ Buy, Buy, Baby (hate that name!)  but it was Fel's idea and when a hubby wants to register you don't argue;)  Here are links to our registries at Target and Walmart.

Seattle

Just got back from a wonderful 4 days in Seattle.  My department treated me to the trip to attend the annual Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) meeting and present my research.

The trip wasn't all work.  Got to sneak down to Pike's Place Market for a bit to see the sights.

We saw gorgeous tulips. . . . .

. . . and the world-famous Pike's Place Fish Market (Fel and I watched an awesome documentary about this place awhile back.)

Had a delicious dinner with some colleagues @ SeaTown finished with the most delicious strawberry-rhubard pie I have ever eaten.

But it was not all fun and games, we did attend the conference, present our poster, attend educational sessions and listen to 2 inspiring keynote speakers.

A Few More Photos

Thank You

Had an almost perfect weekend in Hutchinson.
Despite a few wrong turns on the drive home (which I completely blame on pregnancy brain, ice-cream, garmin, and confusing round-abouts) and a few too many wake-up calls Saturday night,  I had a fabulous time in Hutchinson.
A HUGE thank-you to the Garber family and my auntie for a delicious baby shower.  Thank you so much for your generosity.  This baby is spoiled already!

Week 16: Toenails!

How your baby's growing:

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

Happy Anniversary

Happy Anniversary my Love!

Three wonderful years!

Movies: The Descendants and Mission Impossible

Over the weekend I picked up The Descendants, an Oscar favorite.  Not a whole lot happened during the movie, and it was definitely depressing, but overall a well made film.  Even got Fel to put down the computer.

Tonight, to celebrate our anniversary we grilled, ate strawberries with sugar, and watched the new Mission Impossible.  A rather perfect 3rd anniversary.  Can you believe we've been married 3 years?!?!?!?

For lunch today I sat on a panel for the med students discussing how to maintain a healthy relationship in residency.  Felipe and I are both so weird, we complement each other perfectly.  Two peas in a pod, just wait until there are three of us!

Jack in the Box!

Thought the caption was too "pun-ny" to pass up.  The kiddo's love their cardboard boxes.
And an action shot of Fel enjoying some homemade chocolate icecream with chocolate chips and marshmallows.  Did you know that marshmallows partially dissolve in icecream?  Delish!

PS - I used the recipe above, but substituted half-and-half for the heavy cream and used egg beaters instead of the raw egg yolk.

PPS - Had to go buy some new maternity dud's today.  My biggest pair of pants were quite snug in the rump region.  Gotta love an excuse to shop!

Date night!

Friday night Fel & I went on a hot date to Thai Place for some delicious pad thai.  For dessert we wandered over to Murray's and picked up a pint of Monkey Nuts (banana icecream with walnuts) which we thoroughly enjoyed lounging on the couch watching Entourage season 5.
I got to rock my Joe's Jeans maternity and am still teetering around on platform heels, for a few more weeks anyways.

What a Week!

Monday I took my Family Med boards and celebrated at a romantic dinner with my beau @ Lidia's.

Last night, I brought home both "Favorite Family Medicine Resident" and "Resident of the Year" and have yet to decide how to celebrate.
Perhaps the Timi & Leslie diaper bag I've been eyeing??

Week 15: move away from the light

How your baby's growing:

Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds.

This Week's Activity:

Talk to your baby. It's a great way to start the bonding process. If having an actual conversation seems odd to you, narrate your activities; read a book, magazine, or newspaper; or share your secret wishes for your child. This is great practice for after your baby's born. Talking to babies is one of the best ways to help them develop language skills.

My weekend in pictures

Spring green - our new lilac bush to replace the dead azalea.

Some new fillers for out front until the hosta grows big or we put in stepping stones.
The first blooms on our rosebush.
And, we filled in teh gaps on the size of the house with some new bushes.  Up next, filling in the grass.

Easter breakfast - bagels with my fave HEB jam, scrambled eggs, bacon, and coffee with steamed milk. (what a treat!!! fel let me have a splash of coffee in my milk)

Saturday night - fajitas with Jill & her pops @ Torreon followed by homemade strawberry shortcake.

Shopping @ Buy Buy Baby where I found the perfect maternity pillow to support my growing belly.  Also gave Felipe a quick tutorial in strollers and car seats, finding a stroller with both love!  Lightweight and you can quickly fold it with one hand.
