This blog chronicles the day to day life of 2 physicians, 2 kiddos, and 2 kitties for better or for worse. . . .

Elite!
I was recently elected into the Yelp elite - Yelp is this online group of people who like to eat out and then write restaurant reviews. Nothing exciting and fancy like Zagats, but more fun and sassy. Anyways, everytime we go out and I whip out my phone to check in a write a review, Felipe laughs at me. It is a little dorky I admit. But anyways, as an "elite" member we got invited to our first event --- dinner and drinks at Thomas one of our fave date spots! The event was sponsored and we didn't have to pay a penny. Who's laughing now, Felipe? :)
Just survived my first night as a 2nd year resident --- too bad the promotion came before the raise. Here's a recap of my last 24h.
- 630a: arrive at KU, nowhere to park, end up parking in the surrounding neighborhood and walk
- 650a: arrive to Labor & Delivery where a patient of mine is scheduled for a version (this means the baby is breech and the ob's push on their stomach in magical ways and get them to flip around so they can be born head first) and find out the baby has already flipped on their own. hooray!
- 0700a: arrive to Full-Term nursury where I get to examine and cuddle babies, I also manage to avoid doing a circ -- lucky me! (and lucky baby)
- 1-4p: sit in lecture and learn about pain management
- 4-6p: take a quick nap in the call room
- 615p: arrive for my first night of night-float as a second year
- 640p: get an urgent page from labor and delivery that a patient has arrived completely dilated and is pushing, run upstairs
- 7p until morning: run around the hospital putting out fires, admitting patients, checking my ob who still hasn't had her baby, end up scrubbing in on a c-section
- 730am: hand off the on-call pager, pick up some delicious donuts from a local donut shop around the corner, and crawl in bed for a nap

Firsts. . . . .
Lots of firsts this week:
-Sleeping in the new "costcopedic" bed for the first time - - - amazing! This bed is so comfy.
-Planted my first flowers in the backyard, red daylillies (thanks gma!)
-Felipe & I bought our first piece of art
-First load of dishes in the dishwasher - amen that this one holds more than the one on janssen
-The kitties first used their kitty door - which turned into quite the adventure. Turns out they know how to unlock their kitty door, and have the strength to knock over an entire trashcan to get out.

This & That
Our new mattress set came in two rather heavy boxes that easily fit up the stairs (the lifting was the not-so-easy part.) The plastic has been removed, the bed has expanded, and it is SUPER comfy. We just have to build the "foundation" before we can put it into our frame and start sleeping on it. I am so excited for a queen!
Our new rug arrived and I am in love with it. I just want to curl up on the floor with the kitties in front of some good reality tv.
I got a great deal on some patio furniture on craigslist, but after felipe and I drove out there it wouldn't fit into either of our cars. Booo! This was a rather tense husband-wife situation. I think Felipe will be able to laugh about it soon. . . . . . . "that one time Melissa bought some patio furniture without asking the measurements, and I almost ran out of gas, and Garmin took us to a non-existant gas station. . . . ."
Alright, off to cook my second dinner since moving in - - - frozen pancakes, eggs, and sausage. (We're not too fancy here in the Rosso house.)

My apologies -- I blame it on my job
Last night was the annual urology intern party - where the second-years (including my wonderful husband) host a party for the first-year residents. There are several traditions that take place at this party:
- The urology men wait until the last minute to begin planning
- Their women step in and save the day
- A special cake mold is passed down to make a special cake
Overall, it was a fabulous party. I must give a shout out to the wonderful Jen Davis who graciously hosted (especially for jumping in after my hubby volunteered me to host a mere week after moving into the new place!)

Room of the Day: Living Room
Finally I have some pictures of our new place. It's unbelievable how busy we have been with DIY projects - and we didn't even buy a "fixer-upper." Our living room is starting to come together, Fel & I both adore our chairs, can you match the chairs to their intended sitter? Yesterday I scotch-guarded the cream one so it is protected against any little mishap that may occur. Those fumes are toxic!
And our couch, made of the softest fabric in the world. Miss Elo is still checking the place out, sniffing all around, hiding under the beds. . . . .
. . . .while little man has totally made himself at home.

We're here!
I apologize for the lack of posting. As you can see, its after midnight and I'm still up and at it busy as a little bee. We are sleeping over in the new place now (in the guest room), and the cats made their grand entrance this evening. Overall, its been a low drama move and we definitely could not have done it without the support of our parents. 3 cheers to them all!
I do plan on taking some pictures soon, but want to get a few things tuned up first. The office, kitchen, l iving room, dining room, bathrooms, and guest bedroom are all taking shape. The upstairs is still in a state of disarray while we build up the courage to start taping off the walk-in closet and wait for our mattress to arrive (which has been the biggest headache to date.)
Hugs,
Melissa
