Bridal shower

My best-friend Annie threw my a lovely bridal shower this past weekend. Yummy food, great games, and tons of gifts! What more could a bride ask for?
I'm starting to get so excited - yesterday marked my first day of "summer vacation." Friday was my last day of medical school. This weekend I'm going to visit the twins in Hutchinson. And less than 3 weeks until Jamaica!

brrr, its cold outside

As promised - spicy chicken with black bean salad and my specialty, homemade pizza! Delish. Hope everyone is home warm & safe in this yucky weather. I cannot wait for the sunshiney Jamaican beach!

Pork chops, basketball, and friends

Yesterday's fun continued well into the evening. After getting all of our wedding to-do's checked off our list we sat on the porch with our friend jill sipping blackberry mint-juleps made with fresh blackberries. Delish!
She ended up staying for dinner - pork chops which were even more yummy than I could have ever hoped. And easy too - bread 'em, stick 'em in the oven, and a hour-and-a-half later eat 'em. Felipe made his special tomato salad for our veggie.

After dinner our friend Andy came by so we all watched some basketball and played trivia. Overall the perfect evening at home with friends.

Stay tuned for mexican bean salad with spicy chicken tomorrow.

st patty's day & match day

Since I was missing the Saint Patrick's Day parade and festivities I decided I at least had to partake in some corned beef and cabbage. I found the perfect crock-pot recipe. Threw it together Monday night, plugged it in Tuesday morning before clinic, and came home Tuesday evening to a very aromatic apartment. Unfortunately it was rather bland and blah, but the picture certainly looks nice.

Match Day could not have gone any better. I anxiously awaited my turn, ripped open the envelope, and announced that I had matched into Family Medicine at KUMC. Some of the doctors even came down to the ceremony to congratulate me and give me a present - pretty sweet! So in July I will be starting my first job, exciting stuff:)

I matched!

Check out what I just found in my in-box:

Now I just have to wait patiently until Thursday to find out where!

wedding drama #2

Bad haircut. Short haircut. Grouchy fiance. That pretty much sums it up. Luckily we've got a month until the wedding and it will grow out splendidly and be just fine.

You know, its not as bad as that time I accidently gave him lloyd bangs from dumb & dumber.

Lloyd: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?

Mary: Well, that's pretty difficult to say.

Lloyd: Hit me with it! I've come a long way to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?

Mary: Not good.

Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?

Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million. [pause]

Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance.

wedding drama #1

The first wedding disaster occured a few weeks ago, when my parents were up to visit and mom was helping me make my veil.

8 hours of work, 2 seconds of inattention, and all was lost. Elo ate the veil. Unfortunately rather than nibbling the edges (which could have been trimmed off), she took a nice chunk out of the middle. She got both layers even. After a bit of creativity a new, even better, veil was designed.

p.s. check out our updated webpage!

delish!

For dinner Thursday we had shrimp fettucini - which I highly recommend. It cooked up real quick with not a lot of prep. If you make it, decrease the pepper to 1 tsp unless you like it really peppery!
Brunch this morning was homemade cranberry muffins fresh from the oven and mango tilapia for a late lunch. Both were delish! The mango tilapia was super easy - all of the prep can be done in advance so that all you have left to do is grill the fish.

Have a great weekend!

Olivia the octopus

Miss Elo found Olivia before her little lips were dry and now she has white over all her eight legs, but she is still adorable.

Wishing you a speedy recovery

FMIL - I hope your knees feel better soon:)

From Felipe & I:
Elo wishes you well too!

This week

Started a new rotation yesterday - developmental pediatrics. So far, its been lots of observing through a two-way mirror (one way mirror?) I think its going to be a laidback month and a nice way to finish out medical school.

Tomorrow I'm headed back to Topeka to testify for the same bill only in front of the Senate. This time I am officially giving testimony. I have to decide which power suit to wear! It's supposed to be a decent day tomorrow. The wedding is coming up lickity-split and I'm getting way exciting for the most part. Not so excited about the "Buff Bride" program, but I must look hot on the beach. Unfortunately there is 2 chocolate hearts, a bag of peanut m&m's, and a lemon cake mix calling my name. All in moderation? Speaking of food, I ate my first steak in ~7 years yesterday. KC Strip, medium well, quite delish.

Match day is coming on the 19th, where I will find out which program has hired me for residency. Exciting stuff!
Dinner tonight is this exotic-sounding "Curried Cashew Salad with Pears & Grapes." I know the first thing I'm going to hear when I put dinner on the table is, "where's the meat?"
