its been a souper day

Ugh! This week has definitely been one of the more challenging ones. Felipe is working longer hours, my patients have been just a tad bit on the wackier side, and I heard a rumor that the new melrose place might be getting cancelled. On the bright & cozy side, I made some delish asparagus soup and served it "rosso" style with fresh avocado and chopped cilantro. Exactly what we needed to celebrate the beginning of fall.

Made a hair appointment for early next month, which leaves me a few weeks to think about a new 'do. Definitely liking Amy Adams color and am debating on keeping my length of bobbing it up. Help!

fall yumminess

Free State brewery in Lawrence makes the BEST butternut squash bisque. I had it about 4 years ago with the perfect oktoberfest beer and have been dreaming about it ever since. I have finally hit upon a recipe that comes close to Free State's deliciousness. Paired with some homemade biscuits, you've got yourself the perfect fall meal.

my brush with fame

Had a BLAST in Hutchinson @ the state fair this weekend. Chowed down on a delish pronto pup, admired the quilts, rocked out to heart, and had a brush with fame. In the wine garden, emily and I had the pleasure to meet the star of last Sunday's paper, a rag-to-riches story. He was there with his little lady he met at the soup kitchen.

running on empty

This morning marked week 9, day 3, and the final run of my "Couch to 5k plan." I am officially a running machine! Can't say I'll ever make it to the marathon level, but I am going to start a new program to train for an 8k. However, this running is only going to last as long as the weather holds out. Running on a treadmill is about as boring as an entire morning retracting in the OR.

Last night I went out on the town with the ladies for a bachelorette party. We began the evening with chocolate pasta with berry sauce (heavenly!), moved on to the piano bar (fun!), and ended up on a party bus (interesting!)

My family made a quick visit up the city Friday/Saturday. Our whirlwind visit included a shopping trip to the legends, home-made brunch, delicious BBQ @ Danny Edwards, and a fun mystery movie. It was so nice to hang out with the fam and catch up, it had been 3 whole months since I last saw them.
Next week - Heart concert!

New York here we come!

Our big city adventure is starting to come together!

  1. Ticket to NYC: check
  2. Hotel: check
  3. Amtrak to Providence: check
  4. Ticket home: check

Got a great deal on Amtrak tickets yesterday morning, and finally booked a hotel yesterday night. Here's the link to the hotel: http://travel.nytimes.com/2007/01/07/travel/07check.html. Definitely has some interesting history - woody allen filmed a movie there, madonna used to to live there. . . .that alone should make it an interesting adventure!

Up next: figuring out prime dining locations and choosing a tour. I'm leaning towards the 5-hour super tour of the city so I can get a glimpse of all the major attractions.

all dressed up

Had a lovely time at the wedding last night. Ate some delicious food with wonderful company, danced a bit, and celebrated with old friends. Even on-call Dr. Rosso seemed to enjoy himself.

best friends

fall is in the air. . . . .

SATC sneak peak! Can't wait!

The weather this week has been phenomenal. Totally made me want to go out shopping for some sweet ankle boots, a cozy sweater, and some warm corderoy pants. Today, I'm taking advantage of the weekend and the weather. After sleeping in with my kiddies and sipping a cappucino, I've got 3 mini-loaves of banana bread in the oven, I tidied the house, and I'm about to go for a nice invigorating run.

Elo is taking a mid-morning nap on her window perch and jackson is giving me sweet little kitty kisses. He has quickly adapted to the Rosso household and is developing his own routines. He still drives Elo absolutely bonkers, but I think she enjoys having a little one to play with. They scamper through the house all hours of the night.

Felipe and I are off to a wedding tonight at a country club. I've got this great new dress to wear and I'll try to snap some pics of us all snazzied up.

Happy weekend!
