getting my sparkle back!

Whew! Just enjoyed my very first weekend off since beginning residency. We're talking 8 LONG 70-80 hour work weeks with only one short day to get it all done. Ugh!

Went on a hot date to the movies with my honey on Friday, complete with popcorn and a soda! Definitely a dude movie - district 9 - lots of gore and blood and I even cried. I can't say I didn't like, totally kept me on the edge of my seat. But when I realized I was pretty much the only female in the theater I knew nothing good could come of the movie. I don't think there was even a single kiss scene!

Saturday I had some co-interns over to hangout and vent about our jobs. Kinda nice to hear it from someone else and to hang out away from the office. Gave me a great excuse to go on a Costco shopping spree.

Sunday the in-laws came over to meet little Jackson. He was actually on his best behavior! It was so nice to have them over. We all got to relax and chat on the balcony.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous this weekend! I got to wear real pajamas, my fuzzy robe, and slippers! I just adore fall. Makes me want to bake, I've got some great dinner recipes and soups pulled for this month - butternut squash soup, roasted vegetable panini, mini-meatloaves, sausage lentil soup, parmesan chicken . Yummy!

Als0 got some good running it. 2 miles! My own personal record.

A day off, and the end of inpatient

Had a lovely day off yesterday. Tidied the house, did a bit of shopping, got some errands done, tried several new recipes, and went for a run. No wonder I'm tired today! Had to get a week's worth of activities crammed into a single day.

Our two kiddos are adjusting to life together. They spent a good 2 hours this evening happily chasing each other around the house. Not a single hiss or snarl was heard. I think elo is feeling young again and might just lose a few of her extra ounces before her yearly vet check-up.
So yesterday I attempted my first poundcake with a recipe I got from a friend who got from another friend. I think somewhere along the way the amounts must have gotten changed because my cake turned into a volcano! Luckily I had the bundt on a baking sheet or it would have been an oven disaster. Nonetheless, Felipe and I have been happily snacking on the edges (the only part of the cake that actually got done.)

I also whipped up a delish macaroni and cheese which we noshed on alongside steamed broccoli and grilled sausage. Definitely some comfort food! And lots of leftovers!
Tomorrow I start gynecology. For my first day I have uro-gynecology which means clinic with my hubby! Talk about awkward! Wish me luck:)

New addition to our family

Meet Jasper - our new little man. We adopted him this Sunday and are totally infatuated. He is 4 months old, a purr machine, and loves to give kisses. Elo hasn't learned to love him quite yet, so for now they take turns hanging out in the bathroom while the other one roams the house. I'm hoping they can meet next week and learn to be friends. He's an absolute sweetheart.

Adventures in Residency

One of my more interesting adventures this week involved a phantom pregnancy. Interesting, mind-boggling, and actually rather cool; though I'm sure it was quite un-cool to the patient. I can't imagine the frustration of "knowing" you are pregnant - with all the outward physical signs and symptoms, minus actually having a little baby in your belly.

A less interesting case, that sends shivers down my spine, was a patient who came in with ulcers on his feet and legs causing him much pain. We take a peek, and sure enough, there are some maggots happily munching away.

Stay tuned for more exciting adventures:)

Yummy! I'm getting a Costco membership today and if they have some delish looking strawberries I just might give this a try.
