Our new CSA

We've been using Door to Door Organics for ages, but when KU put up notice they were starting their own CSA I immediately switched.  How nice to pick up a bag of groceries each week after work?

This week's bounty:

  1. milk
  2. picked beets
  3. zucchini
  4. fresh bread
  5. honey sticks
  6. buffalo snack stick
  7. white cheddar cheese curds
  8. blackberries
  9. tomatoes
  10. lettuce
  11. cookbook
  12. extra reusable bag

Oops, I did it again. . . . . .

I have been dying for a Timi & Leslie diaper bag ever since I found out Felipe and I were "plus one."
Being the lucky little lady that I am, I scored one on Ebay yesterday evening for a steal.  Can't wait for her to arrive.  You may say, "But what if it's a boy?  He doesn't want a raspberry bag."
And that that I answer, "But I'm the momma and I do;)"

Arkansas Getaway!

Had an awesome end to my summer vacation, wrapping up 4 days in Arkansas.

Got to feast on Dad's smoked ribs (these were the BEST ribs I have ever had), juicy grilled pork chops, grilled burgers/hotdogs, and Great Grandma Edna's peach cobbler ala mode.  Baby Rosso is going to have quite the sophisticated palate.

Completed FOUR sewing projects - 2 maternity tops in fun Melissa mix-&-match (or not match) prints and 2 cozy swaddlers for the babe.

Got to wear my new baby kicks shirt - fittingly enough Baby Rosso really started dancing in my belly this weekend!

Enjoyed some fresh air at the Fayetteville Farmers Market where we picked up a gigantic cinnamon roll!

AND to top it all off I achieved my 2nd of 3 thrift store dreams - a Pendleton blanket!  Not just one Pendleton blanket, but THREE!
So the 1st thrifty dream was to find a Burberry scarf - Score for Lina (until Felipe found it and promptly stole it for himself)
The 2nd dream came true this weekend - a Pendleton blanket.
The 3rd dream (and most difficult) is to find a Chanel handbag.

Thanks Mom & Pops for making my getaway so awesome!

21 weeks - does our baby have a unibrow?

How your baby's growing:

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well.

Arkansas!

In Arkansas spending the end of my summer break and Memorial Day weekend with the fam.

On the agenda - crafts!

First up is a maternity ruffle shirt to cover my growing bump.  I'm going to to stripes on top and floral on the bottom. The perfect mix of patterns (and hopefully a bit of an optical illusion, hide the bump!)
Up next is 2 baby swaddlers.  I picked up some awesome Batik prints.

I'm hoping we can do some grilling too - - how delicious do these recipes look?  The dilemma is going to be choosing.  Pork chops with chimichurri or Flank steak with BLT smashed potatoes?

Grilling!

Felipe & I shared a lovely "Welcome Home" dinner Wednesday night.  It's always so nice to eat some home cooking after having solely eaten out for the past week.  Fel fired up the grill and we feasted on cornish hens, corn, onions, and a plaintain.  Perfection!

Nursery Inspiration

Starting to dream about the nursery - here's a few photos I've found for inspiration :

I think I've FINALLY settled on a crib.  Luckily for me, its from Walmart and you can buy the crib/mattress/dresser bundled together to save some cash-money.

Hotlanta

Working hard on his business trip;)  I am missing him terribly and cannot wait to pick him up from the airport tomorrow.  Luckily the other wives are awesome, so we've gotten together to hang out and enjoy having empty houses.

Snug

Just finished up this cozy sweater for baby Rosso to wear this winter.

Up next, a colorful horse!

Working hard vs Hardly working

Lol!  Which is which?  Elo is pretending to work hard, she's in front of the computer with a pile of papers (Felipe does the same thing while the Bachelorette is on, he studies but never watches the show.)

Now Jackson is in full out lounge mode.  Chillin like a villain.

So this morning, I was sitting here at the computer perusing yarn for hours to make this FANTASTIC baby blanket.  Jackson was oddly fascinated with the closet, opening it up just a hair and then slamming it back shut.  Sure enough about 10 minutes into this I hear a pitiful meow coming from the closet.  He's locked his sister inside and has been tormenting and teasing her.  Such an ornery brother.

Week 20: Baby Rosso is pooping!

How your baby's growing:

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)
He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

Dinner

While I'm not the biggest fan of Giada, I am a fan of her porkchops!

I picked up some extra-thick chops from the meat market at Hen House, and boy were they delish.
It was a nice dinner at home with the hubby before I dropped him off at the airport today.

Tonight, since it was just me I got to forgo the meat and potatoes in favor of a yummy broccoli-white bean salad.

On my agenda this weekend -

Date nite!

Had a DELICIOUS dinner date @ J. Gil's tonight to celebrate our day:
1.  I have a job interview next Tues in Manhattan @ a retirement community. The job truly sounds right up my alley.
2.  Much more important, we have ONE healthy baby growing in my womb.  Big head, 2 arms, 2 legs, a round belly, and lots of fingers and toes.  As of now we're still calling it baby Rosso, but we've got the gender sealed up in an envelope on the frig just in case.

Happy Mother's Day!

Noshing on some delicious chocolate croissants and a cuppa presspot colombian coffee.  Perfect way to start the day!  (The only way it would have been more perfect was if it was breakfast in bed, but an independent woman is more than capable of whipping up her dream meal while her hubby sleeps in.)

A few of my favorite Mom quotes  -

Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs... since the payment is pure love.

“I know enough to know that no woman should ever marry a man who hated his mother.”
― Martha GellhornSelected Letters
*****SO true!  I've been blessed to marry a man who treats his mother well.

“Everyone is guilty at one time or another of throwing out questions that beg to be ignored, but mothers seem to have a market on the supply. "Do you want a spanking or do you want to go to bed?" Don't you want to save some of the pizza for your brother?" Wasn't there any change?”
― Erma Bombeck

“God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers."

A few pics of my first Mother's Day!

Super Saturday

What an awesome day--
  1. Prenatal work-out video.  Got me feeling like a strong momma!
  2. Overland Park Farmers Market w/ Jen. Including a banana cookie w/ burnt sugar icing, a sleek new pepper grinder for the hubs, discovering an awesome new general store in downtown OP, judging a BBQ contest, and local arugula. Catching up with Jen and mulling over our futures and our hubbies was the icing on my cookie:)
  3. Lawrence w/ the hubby.  Got to browse some new stores, Fel tried to buy me gorgeous jewelry for Mother's Day, lounged at a coffee shop, noshed on a chicago dog, caught up with old friends, and then a late dinner at Free State.

Week 19: Attack of the heirloom tomato!

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.
Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

Pregnant in Heels

To celebrate the return of one of my favorite Bravo shows, Pregnant in Heels I decided to do just that!
Fel and I went on a date to the Blue Moose for a delicious dinner last night - fried pickles, followed by a crab cake sandwich, topped off with a limoncello tort - so delish!
Even better, the only time I really had to wear my heels was walking to and from the parking lot!
