We are so excited to have a little lady that loves music!
I'm wondering what her first instrument should be - I don't think they make piano-sauruses anymore.
Maybe a xylophone?
A pink ukulele?
Anyone else as ready for the weekend as I am? The snow days, power outages, and poor sleep have completely exhausted me. I feel like I'm a post-call resident again. Hoping to catch up a bit this weekend.
Miss Izzy had her vaccinations today and she did so well! I was super proud. Fifteen-and-a-half pounds, 25 inches long, and all smiles. Fel and I are blessed with such a sweet girl.
When Bella had her little cold a few weeks back she would wake up every 1-2 hours during the night because her poor little nose was stuffed up and she didn't know how to mouth breath. I felt so bad for her, and wanted to comfort her, so I would nurse her back to sleep EACH AND EVERY TIME.
I didn't really think ahead or about the precedent that I was setting. Over the next several days she continued to wake up this frequently even when her nose was less stuffy. Whoops! Fel and I desperately missed our awesome little sleeper so we decided to Ferber-ize her back to her old sleeping self.
Ferber is known for the "cry it out" method where you leave your child to self-soothe for progressively longer periods of time. The first night was 3 minutes and neither Fel nor I could make it that long, we totally gave in. After that we decided we must commit ourselves for 4 nights and if it didn't work we'd figure out something else but neither of us could survive with this level of sleep deprivation.
And then magic happened. Two nights and less then 15 total minutes of tears, Sleeping Beauty returned. Oh how we missed her.
We are all readers in this house!
UPDATE: With all the snow days, transformer explosions, and power outages I fear we may be back to step one. Fingers crossed!
Remember when I told you about Miss Bella and her banana? Well, here's the story. . . . .
I came across an article on baby-led weaning which is totally trendy right now. You know me, can't pass on a trend. However, after reading the article it really made since - check it out here. Basically, you give youf baby a hunk of food for them to touch, smell, lick, squish, and maybe even taste. It puts them in charge and keeps you from having to buy jar upon jar of baby food and try to get the mush into their mouth. Kind of a nice trade off in my opinion. So, when I caught Bella reaching for my banana I decided to give her a piece of her own. Here's the play by play - - -
Setting her up with her own banana. Tried to keep part of it in the peel so it was more gripable and less slipable.
Hmmm, what's this??? Reaching for it. . . . .
Picking it up. . . . . . .
And contact! I must say it was rather anticlimactic. No funny faces, no spitting stuff out. Just a little taste before it ended up on her lap, then on the floor, then back in her lap, and on the floor a few more times.
Banana Day 2 - -
But now that we've had all this fun some common sense has set in. With her already having a rash, we won't be able to tell if she's allergic. So back to milk-only until this pesky rash heals. Plus, the literature states to wait until 6 months which feels like FOREVER. All you other mama's out there - - when did you introduce solids?
With Fel being on vacation this past week he got to take Bella to and from daycare for half-days. Poor guy, Bella wouldn't take a bottle from him and she got quite worked up. I've decided he's going to be the one to teach Bella how to use a sippy cup, we bought her one that is a bottle hybrid that she can already hold. He had a busy week getting the house and his affairs in order (titling his car, working on a paper). Monday was the house inspection, which went better than expected. Plenty of things to fix but it seems manageable and we have a solid foundation which is a plus. Anyways, back to our darling Bella. Fel got her all bundled up in her owl hat and KU hoodie.
Today I am SO sore from shoveling snow. Next year for Christmas I want a snow-boy or a snow-thrower.
Today we gave Bella a banana, it was AWESOME! Will post some pics later this week.
She was super excited to go on a walk with daddy last week when the weather was great. Can't wait for spring to return, darn that little groundhog getting my hopes up.
Worked on sleep training with Bella, made some whole wheat apple cinnamon donuts, hung out with some good friends (AND bella's boyfriend!), and celebrated Andy's birthday. What a full and wonderful weekend.
This is how Miss Bella woke up from her nap on Valentine's Day. She's always so happy when she wakes up - whether it's 3 in the afternoon or 3 in the morning. I just adore her pink puffy vest!
Just this past week Miss Isabella turned 4 months. We're taking her for her 4 month check-up next week, can't wait to see how much she weighs!! She is starting to get very talkative and loves guitar-time with her papa. I love watching her learn, she get's so pleased with herself.
