Sunday

The bump is growing bigger day by day. . . . . .but no action yet.

Made some sweet potato fries to snack on earlier, which were good but could have used a few extra minutes of crisping in the oven.

This afternoon we are off to our daycare to drop off our deposit and meet some other mommies & daddies.
Got some applesauce slow-cooking away, making the house smell delicious.
And have squash pasta w/ pancetta planned for dinner, followed by some lounging on the couch.

UPDATE: Got lazy on the squash pasta.  Ended up enjoying a delicious grilled peanut butter & banana sandwich with a big glass of milk.  I think the pregnancy cravings are FINALLY kicking in.

Read a neat article the other day that recommended for every day you go past your due date you treat yourself to something nice.  I decided to start just a bit early.  I picked up a few nursing tanks on super-clearance at Target (figured this was a necessity rather than a treat), a body slimming camisole for after the baby (again a necessity), and some soft button down pj's (I'm arguing necessity once again.)

The only non-necessity was a pair of Camper shoes on Ebay that I got for a steal.  Comfy and cute - the perfect combination.

Slight breakdown, then a recovery

Today did not start out so well.  The "Lina chair" (aka, the blue patterned chair in our living room) finally gave out today and broke into 2 pieces.  Then, I overbaked the cake for an Oktoberfest birthday party tonight.  Finally, took me 10 minutes to get dressed because even my maternity clothes are too small.  Ugh!

Luckily, I was able to rally.  We went for a nice walk about the neighborhood.  My MIL brought us over some delicious chicken for lunch and I was able to save the cake with some yummy caramel icing.
I feel like I could go into labor any second. . . . . .fingers-crossed.

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's waiting to greet the world! He continues to build a layer of fat to help control his body temperature after birth, but it's likely he already measures about 20 inches and weighs a bit over 7 pounds, a mini watermelon. (Boys tend to be slightly heavier than girls.) The outer layers of his skin are sloughing off as new skin forms underneath.

How to recover more quickly:
  • Get as much rest as you can, and make an effort to sleep when your baby sleeps. This can be tough advice to follow, especially during the day, but it really helps.
  • Limit visitors and the time you spend with them. Consider turning off the phone and posting a "we're napping" message on your door to discourage drop-ins.
  • Eat a well-balanced diet.
  • Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and sugared sodas.
  • Accept all offers for help with cooking, cleaning, childcare, errands, and the like. If you aren't receiving offers, ask for help. It's hard, but trust us, your friends and family want to help and most will be honored you asked. If you can't get help for free, consider hiring a mother's helper, cleaning lady, or others who can give you a break.
  • Don't isolate yourself. Talking to friends, relatives, and other new moms about your birth experience and life with a newborn can help you cope.

Emmy's

LOVE award season style!  The Red Carpet is much more fun than the actual awards.  5 each of my faves and not-so-faves.

HOT.
Heidi Klum in Alexandre Vauthier.  She is always so sunny and gorgeous.

Jessica Pare in Jason Wu.  Classic Hollywood glamour.

Leslie Mann in Naeem Khan.  Love the bright yellow with turquoise jewelry.

Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen.  Never thought of matching my hair to my dress.

Sarah Hyland in Notte by Marchesa.  Young, fresh, and beautiful.

NOT. Had a hard time narrowing it down to 5.

Portia De Rossi.  Eww, nude bodysuit thing.

Lena Headey in Armani Prive .  Very Morticia Addams, just in time for halloween.

January Jones in Zac Posen.  Way too much eyeliner.
Lena Dunham in Prada.  Poorly fit.
Julianne Moore in Christian Dior.  Way too much bright yellow.

How your baby's growing:

Your baby has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and she's over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek). She has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test when you hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.
Wondering what color your baby's eyes will be? You may not be able to tell right away. If she's born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If she's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time she's 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she's born, but they usually won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)

POP! blanket

Just finished seaming, weaving in ends, and blocking my POP! blanket.  Not to toot my own horn too much, but I believe I may fall in the minority of preggo's who actually finish the blanket before the baby is born.

Now I just have to knit like mad to finish my nursing cover and then start on the lion pillow.

Pintersting

Inspiration :  Calendar Journal from Design Sponge

My version:

So excited to be able to look back to see what I was doing year-to-year.  What a neat way to reminisce on the good times.

September Renovations

In preparation for our big move this summer to the little apple I've "assigned" myself one room each month to spiffy up (ie, clean, declutter, donate, and get into selling shape.)  This month I tackled my closet which had a fairly short to-do list:

  1. Rug for the floor
  2. Cover the bare ceiling bulb
  3. Find a way to organize my scarves
  4. Better organize my jewelry so it's easy to see --> and a wear it more (Fel has gotten me some awesome jewelry over the years!)
Here's a few of my pinterest "inspiration" pics  - - -

Ta da - - -

First up - new rug
(KMart, rug, $20)

Got to use the powertools to hang the VERY heavy mirror that had previously been propped on the floor.  Now I can see my head and feet at the same time!  Elo is checking herself out.
(Mirror brackets, Home Depot, $2)

Got ALL my necklaces out on display. . . .
(Nails, already had, free)

. . .and my one and only iconic Tiffany's box (bridesmaid's gift from a very generous friend) next to an ornate mirror from Gma.

Shoes, shoes, and more shoes.

AND the new clip-on ceiling light with a pull cord, goodbye bare bulb and shoestring!
(Light and chain, Home Depot, $12)

Someday, I shall have a closet like one of these.  But for now, I'm loving my first walk-in.
(Makeover total, $34.  Walk-in closet, priceless!)
