Pink Springtime Garden Plan

Pink Springtime Garden Plan  --- anyone interested in coming to help me plant?

Work after vacation has been busy, I've started nightfloat which means 630pm overnight to 630am on most todays.  However today, after completing my nightfloat shift I have clinic.  Nothing like greeting a patient when you are sleep deprived and haven't brushed your teeth:)  Once I make it through the morning I get to go home and sleep.

Tomorrow I'm going to the Sparks Flea Market with my girl, Annie.  Can't wait to get out of town, enjoy the weather, and score some fabulous treasures!

Happy Easter!

We're taking it easy today - enjoying some leftovers from our impromptu dinner party last night (red lentil soup and grilled chicken legs) and walking down to the local Redbox to pick up some DVDs for an oscar movie marathon (king's speech and 127 hours.)  Ugh!  So not ready to go back to work tomorrow.  I start nightfloat Wednesday evening.

Austin Day #4

Our last day:(
We slept in even later than before and lounged around watching tv and sipping coffee.  After a nice lunch of spinach salad and roasted pork panini we hit up another food stand for sno-cones.  Yum!  Somehow, in that brief trip I ended up with a wee bit of color and Felipe ended up with some not-so-wee bug bites on the unfortunate locations of his R foot and L neck.  Poor baby is SO allergic.
Everything went downhill from there.  Somehow during our 3-hour layover in Dallas we managed to miss our connecting flight.  Well, I can tell you exactly how we managed to miss it.  After sitting at our gate for 2 hours and 55 minutes the airline anonymously changed gates from gate 4 to gate 34.  They politely called us as the flight was boarding and I told them that we were on our way.  They decided not to wait and completely boarded the plane and closed the gate during our mad dash through the airport.  Yes, we were the crazy Kansans running through the airport at top speed with our rolling luggage behind us.  Thank goodness I had the nice designer rolling luggage with the sturdy wheels;)  We got there and the oh-so-polite ladies at the desk said that they just couldn't hold the flight for us.  It was rather funny when several other people who were waiting with us at gate 4 arrived to gate 34 for the missed flight.  Luckily there was one additional flight that night at 920pm - so after an additional 2 hours in the dallas airport (for a total of 5 hours) and an extra-large consolation sundae with a side of mcDonalds french fries we made it home.

Austin Day #3 - our Anniversary

Day #3 was our 2nd wedding anniversary.  Felipe let me choose breakfast - I picked this lovely little vegetarian hippie coffee shop around the corner from our place (you'll see why here in a bit.)
After breakfast I treated myself to some vintage shopping and $5 fuschia Anne Klein pumps - score!  Fel bought me this gorgeous chartreuse leather bracelet - double score!  He treats me like such a princess.  We headed back downtown and enjoyed the glorious weather (80-90's and sunny, very low humidity, nice breeze.)  And yes, I was wearing sunscreen.
For dinner we had reservations at this glorious steakhouse named Perry's.  After starting with fried asparagus (topped with lump crab, mmm!) we moved on to share a warm spinach salad with bacon vinagrette.  Anyone's mouth watering yet?  For dinner Felipe had a filet mignon while I enjoyed the petit filet with accompanying lobster tail.  Of course we were too full for dessert, but we did head down the street to play some anniversary pinball and dance to a blues band.

Austin Day #2

After sleeping in nice and late Wednesday morning we donned our walking shoes and crossed the bridge to downtown Austin.  Downtown is a rather interesting place - you've got the capital, "dirty bourbon" street, touristy shops, museums, and the celebrity restaurants.  We took a look at it all stopping to enjoy some pecan pie and coffee before hopping on to our Segways and taking a jaunt around town.

The Segway tour was super sweet - Felipe was a natural.  I was a natural woman driver, totally crashing my Segway into a parked Segway about 10 seconds after this pic was taken.  Oops!  Luckily no damage was done and they let me proceed with the tour.

Austin Day #1

We arrived to Austin last Tuesday after an uneventful half day of air travel.  I'm not a huge fan of flying, but it is quite efficient.  After a speedy and rather unpleasant taxi ride we arrived to our new digs - pretty sweet!  It was located between two of the main drags in SoCo.  Street taco's one block to our right, vintage shops and a great bistro one block to our left.  Plus a tree growing through the middle of our patio.

We decided on some street taco's from this set of 3 trailers fittingly called "the Trailer Park."  To my suprise, Fel chose some pork carnitas over his all time fave, the hot dog.  Wow!  I had the seared Tuna taco and it was divine.  I think it still would have been divine even if my tummy had not been rumbling for the past 3 hours.  Just couldn't bring myself to eat airport food during our Dallas layover when I knew I had Austin splendor ahead.

After browsing the shops we picked up some salami, cheese, and organic cheese puffs and settled in to our casa for a relaxing evening.  I stayed up uber late indulging in one of the newer Stephen King novels, The Cell.

I scream, you scream

The Garber family totally thought of this first - my cousins and I have been making these since we were kids.  If only we would have thought to take the show on the road.

I couple other things we invented - - - macaroni and cheese soup (courtesy of grandma), the Cheney shark (courtesy of stacy), and heidi pies (courtesy of aunt weeze.)

New Shorts

To celebrate the new nice weather I treated myself to some new nice shorts.  Think they will be perfect when summer hits.  If only they would arrive in my mailbox tomorrow so that I could wear them to Austin. . . . . .

Sunny Florida

You jealous?  I know I am!

Daffodils

I planted 2 bags of bulbs last fall - daffodils and tulips.  My daffodils have started blooming and are absolutely gorgeous!  The tulips have cleared the ground and are starting to bud, I think I'll have my first blooms in the next week.  Its so cool having a yard, and so overwhelming at the same time.  I wish the flower fairy would come overnight and sprinkle my yard with wildflower seeds.  Unfortunately I think there are several sweaty days of landscaping in my future. . . .

Chicken Curry

Somehow lost the recipe, but here's a chicken curry I made the other day.  Delicious leftovers, though the best part was all the sprinkles for the top - scallions, mango, peanuts, and raisins.

Rock the Parkway

Proof that I indeed ran - the other pictures make me look so slow.  This is the only one where my feet are actually off the ground.

MIA

I have been completely MIA these past 4 weeks - the inpatient service has taken all of my spunk, my energy, and my waking hours.  Finally I have made it through, just barely!  Believe it or not, I was working longer (and more) hours than Felipe.  Ugh!

Looking forward to Peds, my first moonlighting shift, our Austin trip, and our 2nd anniversary!

This morning I ran my very first 5k, and to my absolute delight I managed to finish without walking.  I suppose "ran" is a little overachieving, more like a slow jog.  To celebrate I'm lounging on the couch with the hubby this afternoon watching Johnny Depp, going dancing with my girlfriends tonight, a relaxing massage tomorrow, and then a delicious lunch with the inlaws.

A full and perfect weekend!

Happy Birthday Pops!
