Greetings from Parsons Kansas

T-minus 12 hours and 38 minutes until my weekend in Parsons is finished and I get to hit the road back to Kansas City (and a full day of clinic.) Everytime I come here, I am amazed at both how much I have learned and how much I have left to learn.  After a weekend I am exhausted and spent both mentally from the medicine, physically from the long hours, and emotionally from the responsibility.  I cannot believe that in 12 months, this will be my role on a daily basis.

I did come up with a rather nice math equations: 60 hours in Parsons = 120 hours in Mexico this October complete with sunshine, friends, and family.
(If you are reading this, you are invited to join us!)

I'm leaving you with a few pictures that popped up when I googled "parsons, ks."  The first is a bird's eye view of main street, the second is a bird's eye view of a local bodybuilder.
(And no, I did not meet this gentleman. But per his internet page, he is an all-natural bodybuilder.)
I have added a modesty patch so as not to make anyone uncomfortable.
Aunt Louise - you can see the unedited version if you google him, I think you'll like it;)

I keep hearing rumors that MTV is bringing these guys back, wouldn't that be a great present?!?

To grandmother's house we go. . .

Gma's breakfast smorgasboard.  I couldn't get enough of her homemade rolls - yum!

Molasses Ice Cream

Found this recipe online today, looks divine!  Remember when gpa used to make us homemade icecream and granny would always get the paddle?

Molasses Ice Cream:

• MOLASSES COOKIE ICE CREAM •

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream

Mix the egg yolks, sugar, vanilla and molasses well. Add the milk and blend well. Stir the cream just until blended. Pour into ice cream maker! Once it’s just about set, put ice cream in the freezer to finish setting up– about 2-3 hours. Scoop balls of ice cream onto a cookie tray & put them back into the freezer for a couple minutes. Add cinnamon, sugar & ginger (to taste) into a bowl. Remove ice cream scoops from freezer & roll in sugar mixture. Serve. Makes about 18 scoops. (adapted from this recipe)

On the road again. . . . .

This weekend, Daphne and I have bonded over 660+ miles of highway.  From KC to Hutch, to the KAFP conference in Wichita, and back to Hutch.  And then one more time on Friday/Saturday and in the end back to Kansas City.  Thank goodness for the 40mph in wind and 50mph on county roads.  Can't complain about the 2 free chair massages, though I must give a few words of advice - - - if it hurts, just say so.  Don't try to be the tough girl because you will hurt the next several days.  Kinda like that time your little brother decides to stick up for himself and punches you in the solar plexus. . . . .you know, that time I did not act the tough girl.  I almost puked.  Go Pinto!  Just remember, the only girl you can safely hit is your sister.  And only if she is under the age of 10.

I present my poster tomorrow - induction of labor.  Herbal remedies, folklore, with some modern medicine thrown in.  Have a killer outfit to wear (totally key for the confidence level.)

Away we Go, Part deux

Wanted to leave you with a final food picture - dad's amazing ribs (served 2-ways).  Unbelievably delicious!  I was so excited to eat the rest of dad's smorgasboard that all the brisket shots were blurry.  I couldn't hold still long enough.

Away we Go

I'm home for the weekend visiting the fam in Springdale.  The weather here has been gloriously hot, though nice and dry making it quite bearable.  I have had such an amazing time.  I drove in Friday afternoon and mom and I shared a late lunch and a bit of shopping.

Today, we slept in and had a delicious breakfast of ham, eggs, and homemade biscuits (pictured below.)  We hit the mall and Target, scoring a few bargains and then came home for a killer dinner.  Dad had gotten up early and put a brisket on the smoker.  He also fired up some ribs 2-ways.  That sounds so Top Chef!  After dinner we lounged in front of the television reading magazines.  I'm obsessed with Southern Living.  Definitely will have to renew my own Midwest Living.  Dessert was apple pie ala mode.  So nice to enjoy a full meal in a kitchen where I do not have to cook or clean, just feast.

work wear

Nude Blouse for the Office
Came across this lovely work-outfit on one of the blogs I follow. Perfection! It's such a struggle to look cute, be comfortable, and yet appear like a top doc. I think this outfit would give me an extra 10-20 IQ points. Now if only I had the doctor's salary to buy it!
