romantic B&B getaway
Saturday was wine day - we went on 3 wine tours, a brewery tour, and a tasting at McCormick's distillary. We ended up with 2 delicious bottles of white wine and an amazing blackberry wine that felipe and I are going to hide away for a special occasion. We also explored all the vintage shops on the Main Street and got Felipe some fresh popped popcorn and a homemade phosphate soda. By the end of the day we were exhausted, so we grabbed a quick dinner at the local cafe and spent the evening relaxing in our room.
It was so much fun to get away and relax for the weekend. I feel recharged for a busy week ahead.

KAFP & Knitting
Had a super-fun weekend @ the KAFP Conference - - felt like a princess! My parents drove in and got to share the experience, which made it even more fun.
Friday at lunch I received the Hotstetter Award, which came with a generous cash prize! Friday night was a black-tie banquet so I got to get all dressed up in this fun vintage sequin-encrusted ruffle-busted dress. The food was out of this world - grilled chicken w/ mango salsa, filet mignon, asparagus, and poundcake with berries for dessert (not to mention starbucks coffee!)
Saturday morning I got up bright and early to present my research on white coats and infection control. Turns out my poster was printed about 2 feet larger than my poster-board. But, after some help from my friends and some macguyver action we managed to get it up. Ended up being well worth the effort - 2nd place!
Pics of all the festivities are floating around somewhere. As soon as I get my hands on them I'll post 'em.
I also finished up a colorful knitting project this weekend.

Our last supper. . . . .
Well, not quite the last. I'm vowing to continue cooking for this month at least. I made a cold buttermilk potato soup for dinner with an antipasto platter. Unfortunately Felipe is not a fan of dill, even after I told him its the trendiest spice out there this season. At least I didn't hear, "where's the meat?" I sneakily put a few slices on the antipasto platter. I'm learning how to be a good wife:)

A few pics from other recent adventures - felipe on the balcony, and felipe at his end-of-the-year banquet with an ortho buddy (who looks just like that chick from grey's anatomy.)

Morning!
Experienced my first residency drama this week - got sent home from PALS. Which basically equates to 2 more days of vacation and I'll make up the class in October. No worries, I'm not in trouble it was just someone on a power-trip flexing their pseudo-muscles. I think this happens to everyone at some point. Why can't people realize that love makes the world go round, and karma is going to come bite them in the butt one of these days?
Right now I'm sitting in my pajamas sipping a delicious cuppa joe fresh from our new presspot which makes the most delicious coffee ever! My plan is to get lots of errands/studying done today. This weekend I'm heading out to the KAFP conference in Wichita with ma & pa. Should be a fun time! I've got this fabulous vintage strapless sequin and ruffle dress to wear to the black tie event!
Anyways, I've started a family tree on MyHeritage.com. Thanks moms for filling in some details. How fun to see our families grow!

This week. . . . .
This week marked the beginning of intern year for me - ugh! I didn't realize how much I enjoyed my summer vacation until it was over. Thursday was my first day of residency. I got to meet my fellow interns, and they are definitely an "interesting" group. Everyone seems very friendly though, so I have high hopes we will all become friends. Anyways, Thursday I learned how to resuscitate neonates. Scary stuff! I hope I never have the opportunity to use this knowledge. Friday we were tested, and even though we were using fake babies I still got nervous! Luckily I saved my baby - hooray!
Felipe had his surgery end-of-the-year banquet Thursday night. It was fun to get dressed up and be a surgeon's wife. Those surgeons are a weird bunch. His chief of staff has no filter, telling felipe he was an idiot to get married (right in front of me!) Then one of his surgeon buddies made a family medicine joke (right in front of me, again!) ARgh! You know what, all surgeons have to do is know how to cut and sew. I know how to take care of people from birth through old age, plus I'm nice!
Errands and relaxation this weekend. Next week I learn how to resuscitate kiddos and adults.

Hutchinson Reception
Just got back from a family extravaganza in Hutchinson the weekend. Sadly it marks the end of "the season of melissa." And what a season it's been!
The wedding reception was SO much fun, despite the heat of the day. I got to see family and friends from near and far, some that I hadn't seen in almost 15 years! Mom worked so hard to make sure it was perfect. The three families (Garber, Klasens, & Rosso's) got on splendidly. Great stories all around!

Me & papa bear.
Garbers & Rosso's unite.
Unfortunately, felipe looked much better than he tasted!

the season of melissa is coming to an end. . .

You know, the season of melissa has been absolutely fabulous, even more wonderful than I could ever ask for. It began with a victorious match day, then on to my chic bridal shower, the dream destination wedding, graduation, our sassy kansas city reception brunch, and tonight our top-model photo shoot. One more exciting reception (which is turning into a fun family reunion!) this weekend and 4 short-days later I will be starting my first job as a doctor! I've tried to take tons of pictures to share the season with my friends and family. Enjoy!
